Security & Responsibility

AI assistants are powerful tools. To operate them safely, clear responsibilities are essential. Here we explain transparently what we do — and what falls under your responsibility.

What StartLobster Provides

Professional installation and configuration of OpenClaw
Security hardening following official guides and best practices
Encrypted connections, firewall rules, access controls
Hosting on Hetzner in German data centers (ISO 27001)
Regular security updates and monitoring
Data Processing Agreement (DPA) per GDPR
Security consultation during onboarding
Incident response for infrastructure-related issues

Your Responsibilities

As the operator of the AI instance, you are responsible for the content and behavior of your assistant:

Designing system prompts and AI instructions
Monitoring and moderating AI outputs
GDPR compliance for processed data
Secure storage of API keys and credentials
Restricting AI permissions to what's needed
Training staff on working with the AI assistant
Regular review of AI actions
Compliance with industry-specific regulations

Known Risks of AI Assistants

AI assistants like OpenClaw are based on Large Language Models. This technology carries inherent risks you should understand and manage:

Prompt Injection

Attackers can attempt to inject instructions into your AI via crafted emails, web pages, or documents. A well-configured system minimizes but cannot fully eliminate this risk.

Hallucinations

LLMs can generate plausible-sounding but factually incorrect information. AI outputs should never be used unreviewed for business-critical decisions.

Data Leaks

Confidential information entered into AI conversations may be exposed through connected platforms or logs. Never input passwords or highly sensitive data.

Autonomous Actions

OpenClaw can execute shell commands, modify files, and send messages. These capabilities are powerful but require appropriate supervision and permission restrictions.

Social Engineering

Third parties may attempt to interact with and manipulate the AI through your messaging channels. Ensure only authorized persons have access.

Our Security Approach

We cannot eliminate the inherent risks of AI — no one can. But we set up infrastructure to minimize risk:

  • All data stays on your hardware or in German EU data centers
  • Strict firewall rules and network segmentation
  • Encryption of all connections (TLS 1.3)
  • Minimal permissions as default configuration
  • Regular updates of the OpenClaw system
  • Monitoring and alerting for anomalies
  • No data sharing with third parties through our infrastructure
  • Documented security configuration for your audit records
